Match facts November 3, xxxx Start time xxxx local (xxxx GMT) Big picture Bangladesh don't often go into the final match of a series with victory already secured. They are usually on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline, or as it has happened in six contests against higher-ranked sides, it is 1-1. This scoreline, however, is just one of several things that's different about this series against New Zealand. After drawing the Tests 0-0, Bangladesh have dominated New Zealand completely in the limited-overs games. They have played with an inner strength drawn from becoming a team of performers, rather than depending on one or two to do the job. Naeem Islam, a last-minute replacement for Shakib Al Hasan in the first ODI, struck 84 and had an important partnership with his captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 90, his first half-century in nine ODI innings. During the defence, Rubel Hossain stunned New Zealand by taking a hat-trick and a six-wicket haul.In the second ODI, Tamim Iqbal scored a fifty but when Bangladesh were beginning to slip, Sohag Gazi and Mahmudullah took them to 247, giving the bowlers a fighting chance. This time Mashrafe Mortaza stepped up. Playing an international series after nearly a year on the sidelines because of a heel injury, Mortaza moved the ball significantly and ensured New Zealand had a poor start. Gazi and Abdur Razzak maintained pressure and Bangladesh took the series with a game in hand. Apart from an in-form Bangladesh unit and the absence of Brendon McCullum, out due to a sore back, New Zealand will have to contend with a questionable playing surface as well in the final ODI. The Fatullah Cricket Stadium has been renovated, and the pitches have been relaid. Several batsmen have complained of very low bounce during the Dhaka Premier League. The average first-innings score in the domestic one-day tournament is 195; in the second innings it is 157. Public interest in this game is so high that when hundreds of fans were denied tickets at a local ticketing booth in Narayanganj near Fatullah, they fought with police and 30 people were injured. Form guideBangladesh WWLLW (last five matches, most recent first)New Zealand LLLWL Watch out for Tamim Iqbal has shown he can bat aggressively as well as carefully. His 58 off 86 balls in the second ODI, however, ended poorly as he was lost for shots. He began slogging and eventually missed one that hit his stumps. A natural stroke-maker, Tamim can go all out in the last game because the series has already been won. Ross Taylor scored two fifties in the Test series but still hasn't crossed that mark in the two ODIs. He has been one of the side's best batsmen on this tour, however, playing spin well and stitching partnerships at times. With McCullum out, he will have to step up and do it all alone. Team newsNew Zealand will be without Brendon McCullum, who has a sore back. Luke Ronchi is likely to replace him in the XI, with Kyle Mills leading the side. The team management will be tempted to give fast bowler Adam Milne a game, but it is unclear at this stage who they would drop considering the better bowling performance in the second game. New Zealand (likely): 1 Anton Devcich, 2 Hamish Rutherford, 3 Grant Elliott, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Luke Ronchi, 6 Corey Anderson, 7 Jimmy Neesham, 8 Tom Latham (wk), 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Kyle Mills (capt)Tamim complained of abdominal pain, and is a doubtful starter. Bangladesh coach Shane Jurgensen spoke of the heavy workload of some of his players so there may be a case for resting Rubel Hossain or one of the spinners. Mortaza may be rested for the dead rubber too. Al-Amin Hossain could make an ODI debut.Bangladesh (likely): 1 Tamim Iqbal/Anamul Haque, 2 Shamsur Rahman, 3 Mominul Haque, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 5 Naeem Islam, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Sohag Gazi, 9 Abdur Razzak, 10 Mashrafe Mortaza/Al-Amin Hossain, 11 Rubel Hossain/Ziaur Rahman Stats and trivia The last international match in Fatullah was an ODI between Bangladesh and Australia in xxxx. Tamim is now Bangladesh's highest run-scorer in ODIs with xxxx. He went past Shakib's tally of xxxx in the second ODI. Bangladesh have beaten New Zealand and West Indies seven times, their most wins against higher-ranked teams in ODIs. Pitch and conditionsThe Fatullah Cricket Stadium's international status had to be reinstated by the ICC because it had not staged a match in five years. The pitch and outfield have been relaid after several years of wear and tear and complaints of poor drainage. After two years of work, the venue began to be used for the Dhaka Premier League this season, but it had low bounce and has only improved a little since early SeptemberQuotes"We want to end ODI series on a high. Everyone will be up no doubt."New Zealand pace bowler Kyle Mills"We will play the same way we did during the first two matches. We will not take things casually just because the series has been won."Posted by StraightHit on (November 2, xxxx, 12:35 GMT) I feel NZ sat out B McCullum for the final ODI to give Mills some sort practice on captaincy while the senior players are still around before heading to SL tour. Never heard if Mills captained before, so it should be a dream come true for him. Talk about luck and being in the right place at right time! Posted by IND_BAAL on (November 2, xxxx, 12:16 GMT) New zealand will try to come back. i think with due respect to New Zealand, We should give a rest to tamim, Mashrafe in fact Mushfiq and try out Anamul ( We need to sort out opening problem and also he is a very good wicket keeper) I have seen mushfiq getting hurt many times during this series. Mahmudulla can be a captain for 3rd ODI. Giving rest to mashrafe is very important because we want him to be fit in every series. we dont want him to lost for ever since he is now 30+.On the other hand we need to find pacer and we should give a try to Al amin. These are my personal thought. I think new player will also give their 100% and we will have a BANGLA WASH Posted by Scott Prensel Murray on (November 2, xxxx, 11:58 GMT) If we had our best players a team of Guptil, Ryder, Williamson, Taylor, McCullum(wk), Anderson, Neesham, Vettori, Southee, Mills, McClenaghan would be fantastic. But instead we have Rutherford (average of 17 in list A), Devcich (average), Elliot (decent), Ronchi (terrible starter, terrible opener, good to see him down the order in this game), Latham (decent), NcCullum (bowling average of 46 which is terrible). Our team is far from full strength and we don't need a team of average batsman, and batting down to number #10, we need to have a decent or better team, maybe when everyone is fit and not injured we can have that. Posted by SyedAreYouDumb on (November 2, xxxx, 11:27 GMT) @kiwicricket remember not so long ago, you beat England and SA in back-to-back series and away from home. Losing to Bangladesh isn't any shame. As for Bangladesh, I find it funny like my fellow fans, that Bangladesh are complaining about workload and want some 'rest'. Since when did we start playing 20 ODI'S+ like India? And lets not get ahead of ourselves, we are not that good to just 'rest' players. But anyway let's rest Mash, Rubel, Tamim as these guys will get injured. Posted by Riffat on (November 2, xxxx, 10:57 GMT) I would like to see Ziaur and Al-Amin resting Mortoza and Rubel. This is the best opportunity to give everyone a chance. Also like to see more bowling from Mominul, Nasir and Naeem. (at least 7-8 overs from these 3 back-up bowlers).Posted by Kazi Rajib on (November 2, xxxx, 10:54 GMT) Corey Anderson will be the main threat against Bangladesh for Banglawash. Otherwise a very good evening is waiting for Bangladesh fans tomorrow. Posted by Azman Arefeen on (November 2, xxxx, 10:43 GMT) Recent performances by Bangladesh in both ODI & Test formats undoubtedly proved that cricket has reached to more than a decent standard in Bangladesh and definitely has sealed the mouths of critics who, to an extent irrationally & shamelessly, demanded to snatch the test status of Bangladesh. These recent performances also do post a clear & strong message to the ICC & other cricketing nations that the next FTP should allocate more tests and ODIs for Bangladesh. At present its only around 2-3 tests a year and around 8-9 ODIs a year, which is really ridiculous, when u consider the recent performances against other teams Posted by Warm_Coffee on (November 2, xxxx, 10:32 GMT) I laughed when I read Bangladesh are planning to 'rest' players. How many games has the team even played this year? Posted by tauhid_aks on (November 2, xxxx, 10:25 GMT) Sohag Gazi has rightly said that they won't take things casually. However, I don't think Bangladesh should rest any player. Workload? We are playing international cricket after around 5-6 months. But in case Tamim is unfit, I would be tempted to play Ziaur. He has opened innings in the DPL and more importantly he would provide to be a handful in conditions with low bounce.Posted by kiwicricketnut on (November 2, xxxx, 10:09 GMT) Everybody is dropping like flies, usually its the kiwis getting crook but even the bangladesh players are coping it. Well its a pretty dissapointing tour from a nz fans perspective, i can only hope for a better effort, its been pretty spineless so far from our batters, we use to be a team just like bangladesh, not too many stars but everybody playing together as a team, everyone contributing and as a unit punching above their weight, we need to play like that again, as a team, it just looks like weve been out passioned and bangladesh want it more than us, we still don't really have the big stars but we are definatly not playing as a unit like we use too. Come on nz get your fight and mojo back and give your fans something to smile about
